"I am quitting from UMNO" - Dr M

Former Umno president Dr Mahathir Mohamad today announced that he was quitting the party with immediate effect and urged other members to follow him. The unexpected decision might be due to his utmost disappointment regarding to UMNO recent leadership.

Before that, I keep wondering by looking to his life journey. Along his political career, he seems like to get involve in many controversial incidents. Starting from his dismissal from Tunku Abdul Rahman cabinet around 1969, he with support of student organizations (PKPIM & PBMUM) led by Anwar Ibrahim, had made a number of very harsh criticisms on the late PM.

On 1988, he once again make himself to be popular when get involve in the UMNO election incident. Dr Mahathir Mohamad defeated his opponent Tengku Tan Sri Razaleigh Hamzah (former UMNO vice President)with a slight majority - 43. The result consequent the dissatisfaction among so called - “Umno 11″ group. One of its members, Abdul Rahim Abdul Rahman, who claimed to represent the group, said all 11 of them only sought to have the party conduct its elections again because several delegates to the April 1987 general assembly came from unregistered branches of the party. Later on the party was declared void and null.

On 1989, his conduct of sacking Chief Justice Tun Salleh Abbas cause the lost of confidence among Malaysian towards judiciary system. It was followed by the newly judicial crisis on VK Lingam tape.

On 1998-1999, he was taking terrible decision by dismissing his deputy premier Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. On the reign of Pak Lah, Anwar was freed from the sodomy accusation.

However Mahathir still take his mind to be used as best defense. He wants to prove that he is whiter than white. As stated by Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek the Minister for Information, Mahathir is the one who is responsible in breaking the UMNO.

His team also vocally prevent UMNO from reinviting Anwar. But later on, he himself left the UMNO.

salam sejahtera buat sahabat...
